Santa Chooses Elf for the Big Night

Who Will Drive the Sleigh if Santa Stays Away?

[Santa Chooses Elf for the Big Night]

Gimo Elf looked up from his work on the Appendapulator to find a group of elves looking at him. This was nothing new to Gizmo recently. Ever since he had accidentally popped Santa away from the North Pole, elves were stopping by, checking on his progress, seeing if he needed anything, encouraging him any way they could to help him bring Santa back.

This group did not look encouraging. This group looked concerned.

"We need to talk," said Adamup Elf, Santa's chief counting elf. "it's four days til Christmas Eve, and Santa's still not back."

"I know," said Gizmo," so every minute I spend flapping my gums with you is a minute I'm not working on getting him home in time."

"It's extremely important that you get him back," said Elvin Elf, publisher of The North Pole Times.

"Do you know what will happen if you don't?" asked Bernard Elf, Chief Computing Elf at the North Pole.

"Last I heard, Santa said he was going to appoint someone to drive his sleigh in his place," said Gizmo. He looked at the group of elves in front of him. They were some of the most important elves at the North Pole. "I'm guessing it's going to be one of you four."

"That's what we thought too," said Smitty Elf, the elf in charge of the wish list, until we read this."

He handed Gizmo a piece of paper. On the paper was a printout of an email from Santa. There was a lot of complaining about being popped all over the world in it, but at the bottom, there was a line that someone had circled.

"I've given a lot of thought to what we should do if I don't make it back to the North Pole in time for Christmas Eve,", Santa wrote, "And I think that an elf should take my sleigh out if I don't make it back in time. I have thought about all the wonderful qualities that all of my elves possess, but in the end, there is only one elf who could successfully do the job.

"Therefore, in case I do not return in time, my sleigh is to be driven on Christmas Eve by Waldo."

Can this be true? Will Waldo be trying to slide down our chimneys Christmas Eve? Keep reading The North Pole Times to find out!
