Missing Bow Mystery

Elves Puzzle Over Disappearance

by Elvin Elf

   - Published: December 1, 2016

[Missing Bow Mystery]
It's Holly Elf's first year as Santa's Chief Present Wrapper, and she's very worried--all her bows have disappeared!

"I've looked for them everywhere," a teaful Holly told Santa, who had come to the Wrapping Room, along with Bernard Elf, (Santa's Chief Assistant Elf) and Gizmo Elf, (Santa's Chief Inventor Elf), to see what can be done.

"I'm sure you have," said Santa. "So what can we do now?"

"Well," said Gizmo, "I could program the Appendapulator to make more bows." (The Appendapulator, for those who don't know, is the great toymaking machine of the North Pole).

"That might work," agreed Santa. "Would you be able to still make presents while that happens?"

No, we couldn't" admitted Gizmo sheepishly. "It's one or the other. We could make the presents and have no bows for them, or have a bunch of bows but no presents to put them on."

[by Elvin Elf] "It seems very obvious to me," said Bernard, the most efficient and logical elf who was ever born, "that we simply need to send out the presents without bows this year. They'll be wrapped, and ribboned, but no bows. It's not how we normally do things, but for this year we'll have to make do." And then he looked down his nose at Holly. "And maybe next year we'll put someone in charge who won't lose things so easily."

Holly Elf was short--even for an Elf, who aren't very tall to begin with--but at those words she stood a little taller, and her eyes flashed with a bit of anger. "I didn't lose the bows! I don't know what happened to them, but I didn't lose them! "One minute I was talking to Waldo, and the next..."

"Waldo?" Santa, Bernard, and Gizmo all said the name at the same time. "You didn't tell us Waldo was here," said Gizmo, "that changes everything!"

"What was he doing?" asked Bernard. "What did you say to him?"

Holly looked a little flustered. "Well, we were talking about the song 'Deck the Halls,'" said Holly, "and he didn't know what some of the words meant...

Santa's lips were moving slightly as he sang the song to himself. Then he thought a bit. Then he smiled. "Ho ho ho!" he cried happily. "I think I know! Holly, come with me, and I'll take you to your bows!"

What did santa figure out? Where are Holly's bows? Keep reading The North Pole TImes to find out!
