Speed Skating Event Begins

Today, the reindeer begin the sixth event of the games, the Speed Skating competition.

The reindeer will race each other around a special track at a blazing pace. We will go in pairs, so in the first round today, there will be four races. The winners move on to tomorrow’s semifinal round.

Sometimes, they go so fast, it’s difficult to see them.

“The speed skating is my favorite event,” said Rudolph. “I love to watch the reindeer buzz around the oval. It’s really fun to see them go so fast.”

Ok, let’s head out to the Hoojamawazit Skating and Ice Cream Palace, for the action! A sold-out crowd has packed the Palace for the first round of the speed skating.

We’ve got four races today. It’s Prancer versus Blitzen, Dasher versus Cupid, Vixen versus Comet and Donder versus Dancer.

First up is Prancer versus Blitzen. It’s three times around the track and the first across the finish line wins.

The flag is up, and they’re off!

“Oh, my the deer are off to blazing start,” said Rudolph. “I can hardly see them as they are going so fast.”

Indeed, and in the first race it’s Blitzen by a nose over Prancer.

"Oh my goodness, that was fast," said Rudolph. "I will have to check the replay on that one."

Yes, indeed. And surely upon review, it was Blitzen.

And in the second race, it’s Cupid over Dasher. And Vixen wins the third race and Dancer takes the final race of the day.
