Reindeer Compete in Short Program

Figure Skating at it's Finest!

by Timbo Elf

[Reindeer Compete in Short Program ]

Hello to all, and welcome back to the Reindeer Games! Tonight the Figure Skating event continues with its second day of competition. The Figure Skating is the third event of the Reindeer Games and will be followed by the Luge (really fast sleigh riding), the High Jump, the Around-the-World Race, Snowboarding and finally, the Cross-County Skiing event.

So far, two gold medals have been won by our famous reindeer, by Comet in the Speed Skating event and Blitzen for Ski Jumping. And tonight, it’s back to the Ice Palace for the second round of the Figure Skating. Tonight it’s the short program. Each reindeer, after strapping on their specially made reindeer figure skates, will try the very same three moves on the ice. And the Elfian judges will do their best to rate each performance.

And now down to the ice for our figure skating expert, Dick Buttonflake Elf. Take it away!

“Hello to all our fans across the world tuning in to the Reindeer Games! In tonight’s short program, each deer will try the same three moves, a Backflip, a Double Axle and the Whirlybird. In the Backflip, the deer will sake backwards and then do a complete flip, head over heels in the air, and land on their feet. In the Double Axel, each deer with spin 2 and one-half times in the air and then land on one foot. And in the Whirlybird, each deer will spin in the same spot as fast as possible. Ok we’re ready to go!”

We’re down on the ice, and up first, it’s Dancer. Dancer’s on the ice, and the crowd at the Ice Palace is very excited. It should be a good show! Dancer begins the routine and is moving gracefully around the ice. And now Dancer spins and is skating backwards and getting ready for the Backflip. And wow! Dancer is up in the air and floats perfectly head over heels and then lands perfectly. A very nice Backflip!

[by Timbo Elf] And now the Double Axel. Dancer moving swiftly and then takes off beautifully. Yes, it’s 2-and-a-half spins in the air and a smooth landing. A very nice landing. Very good jump for Dancer!

And finally it’s the Whirlybird. Dancer moves quickly to center ice and spinning faster and faster and faster! Wow, Dancer is spinning so fast, it’s just a blur. And Dancer finally comes to a stop, just like that, and it’s a great short program for Dancer. The crowd at the Ice Palace is on their feet with a loud ovation! And the judges love the routine. It’s a 9.9 score for Dancer.

Next up is Cupid. Cupid’s on the ice and into the routine. First, the Backflip. Cupid is gliding smoothly backwards and then … up and over! Beautiful jump! And Cupid’s quickly moving into the Double Axel, and it’s a very nice jump, as well. A perfect landing. And finally it’s a very nice Whirlybird. Great job by Cupid. The judges put up a 9.9 for Cupid. Cupid and Dancer are tied for first place so far!

Following Cupid and Dancer are each reindeer with the short program. That’s Comet, Blitzen, Dasher, Donder, Vixen and Prancer. And each does a great job! But only the top four can move on the next round of the Figure Skating.

The Elfian judges are huddling and trying to decide the top four. It’s going to be close! Who will move to the next round?

Ok, the judges have made a decision, and here are the top four: Dancer and Cupid and Prancer and Dasher! Each had a 9.9 score in the short program and will move on to the next round of the Figure Skating event. Check back for the next round of the Reindeer Games Figure Skating event!
