Speed Skating Gold up for Grabs

How Fast is Fast

[Speed Skating Gold up for Grabs]

Today, we move to the final round of the Speed Skating competition. The winner will be the sixth gold medalist of the games.

Cupid and Blitzen will race to see who will join our previous winners -- Dancer in the High Jump, Donder in the Long Jump, Comet in the Sprint Race, Vixen for the Around-the-World Marathon and Prancer in the Figure Skating competition.

“This will be a good final race here,” said Rudolph. “The track has been very fast, and the races have been close.”

As we know, Rudolph provides expert commentary but doesn’t play in any reindeer games. That's because Rudolph is different from the others, as he has a shiny, red nose. The other reindeer gave him a hard time over this and wouldn’t let Rudolph play with them, or play in any reindeer games. You might even say Rudolph was bullied.

“Yes, but I was able to help Santa when the others couldn’t,” said Rudolph. “And that was very important to Santa and all the children of the world. I am special.”

Indeed. And Rudolph still doesn’t play in any reindeer games. But that’s because he’s very special. If Rudolph played, he would win every event, and the games would be no fun for the others. So perhaps being different means being special, and surely that’s a good thing.

And the games are a good thing, too, so let’s head out to the Hoojamawazit Skating and Ice Cream Palace, for the action! A sold-out crowd has packed the Palace for the final round of the speed skating.

After Speed Skating, we have only two events left – the Obstacle Course and the Snowboarding event, before the games come to a close.

Cupid and Blitzen are at the starting line and they’re ready. The flag is up, and they’re off!

Into the first turn, it’s neck and neck, antler to antler. And then it’s into the back stretch, around the far turn and down the home stretch for the first lap. And the second lap. And the third and fourth laps too.

“Oh, my they are going fast,” said Rudolph. “I must check the super slow-motion sports machine to see who’s winning. It’s just too hard to see because the reindeer are going so fast!”

Heading into the final turn, it’s Cupid by a nose. And now Blitzen takes a slight lead. Oh, wait, Cupid is back in front.

“Only 100 yards to go,” said Rudolph. “It’s a super race.”

Blitzen is back in front now, but Cupid is right there, and he takes the lead by just one inch.

And now it’s to the finish line and across the line, oh my it’s too close to call! Over to the replay machine for the Official Elves decision, and the winner is …

Blitzen! He is the sixth gold medal winner of the games!

Check back tomorrow for one of our favorite events, the Obstacle Course, as the world famous Reindeer Games continue.
