Holy Penguin Trouble!

Jiller Elf Reaches South Pole, Begins Search

[Holy Penguin Trouble!]

The temperature was a degree or two above freezing when Jiller Elf arrived in the Antarctic. "Wow--it's warm down here," she said.

The South Pole was a lot different from the North Pole, Up north, the first day of winter was eleven days away. At the South Pole, however, it was eleven days away from the first day of summer! Jiller decided that she would ask Bernard why this was the case--after she found Waldo Elf, and brought him back to the North Pole.

Jiller looked around. She knew that this was where Waldo had been sent, but she didn't see any sign of him. According to Gizmo, it wouldn't be Waldo Elf, anyhow. It was actually Santa, trapped in Waldo's body! (If you're not sure what's going on here, read a few back issues of The North Pole Times to catch up! -ed.)

Either way, this wasn't how Jiller had been planning on spending the days before Christmas. She didn't have Louis Elf make her a new outfit, just to be stuck on the farthest spot away from home possible!

[by Elvin Elf] Jiller heard a noise, and turned around. From behind a small mound of ice, waddled a bird. It was a black-and-white bird, and its wings looked more like fins.

'That must be a penguin,' thought Jiller. She had heard of these flightless birds, but had never seen one. Well, now she had.

"You wouldn't happen to have seen an Elf around here lately?" she asked, and giggled. The bird giggled too--or at least made a giggling sound.

Then, from behind another snow bank, Jiller heard that same giggling sound, and out walked another penguin. A few more giggles, and a few more penguins appeared. And a few more, and a few more...

Before she knew what was happening, Jiller discovered she was surrounded by a growing ocean of penguins--and they were all heading straight at her!

What's going on at the South Pole? Is Jiller going to become penguin food? Keep reading The North Pole Times to find out
