Number One?

Computer Whiz Elf Doesn't Think So

[Number One?]

Hello, readers of The North Pole Times! I'm Bernard Elf. My friend Elvin Elf, who is the Editor In Chief of this newspaper, asked me to write a little bit about myself. I told him I didn't know why anyone would want to read about me, and he told me that lots of people would be interested in reading about "Santa's Number One Elf."

Well, the first thing you should know about me is that I do not consider myself to be "Santa's Number One Elf." I'm just in charge of Santa's computers and all his email. I'm not as hardworking and practical as Toby Elf (Santa's Chief Toymaking Elf), not as inventive as Gizmo Elf (Chief Inventing Elf), and not as creative as Louis Elf (Chief Designing Elf). I'm not as compassionate as Jiller Elf, not as cheerful as Waldo Elf, not as good with reindeer as Timbo Elf...the list goes on and on. But Elvin (and others) tell me I'm Santa's Number One Elf, because I know computers.

[by Bernard Elf] But before there were computers, I really wasn't good at much of anything. So when computers first started being used, I started working with them, simply because I didn't fit in anywhere else. Then, before you knew it, computers were everywhere, and all of a sudden, I was being called Santa's Number One Elf!

So what I want to tell you today is this: If you sometimes feel like you're not good at anything, it's probably because you haven't found the something that you're good at! Keep looking! Keep trying new things! Don't be discouraged, and don't be afraid. Everyone has a talent, and no one knows what tomorrow will bring.

Who knows? Maybe one day, one of you might get a job up here at the North Pole, and we might be calling you "Santa's Number One Human!"
