Reindeer Skate for Gold

Figure Skating Final Round

[Reindeer Skate for Gold ]

Today, the famous reindeer compete in the final round of the Figure Skating competition. It’s been a fun event so far, and today’s long program will be exciting, too.

In the long program, the reindeer can try any move they would like to try, and so we will see some surprises and some really fun things.

Today, only the top three will skate for the gold medal, based on the scores from the first two rounds. And the top three deer are Dancer, Dasher and Prancer.

“This will be an exciting finish,” said Rudolph, on hand for commentary, along with our special figure skating experts, Dick Elf and Peggy Elf.

“I am very excited,” said Dick Elf. “Skating is just my favorite sport, and the reindeer have performed very well so far in this difficult competition.”

Ok, we’re ready, and so let’s head out to the Hoojamawazit Skating and Ice Cream Palace, for the action! A sold-out crowd has packed the Palace for the final skate.

And up first is Dancer.

Each program has music, too, and Dancer will be skating to Christmas carols performed by the famous Boston Pops orchestra.

And she takes the ice to a standing ovation! Ok, she’s ready. Dancer begins slowly but gracefully, and she quickly lines up her first jump. As we know, jumping is a very important part of the figure skating competition.

“Oh my, it’s a triple coffee maker with a twist, and Dancer does it perfectly!” said Rudolph. “She’s off to a fine start.”

And Dancer continues with some fine spins and a beautiful whirly-bird move. And then quickly, it’s three triple jumps in a row!

“Oh my, that’s superb,” said Dick Elf. “But the antler was slightly out of position on the last jump.”

And now for the big finish! Dancer picks up speed and then slows down and then picks up speed again. It’s going to be a good one. She stops, spins and takes off straight up in the air and does three twists before landing softly and gracefully. A perfect button-buster for the finale!

“Fantastic finish,” said Peggy Elf. “Very well done by Dancer.”

And now for Dasher. She takes to the ice and will perform to the very famous songs of Leonard Bernstein and Steven Sondheim.

“Dancer has some excellent moves in store for us, for sure,” said Rudolph.

Indeed Dancer shows tremendous grace and skill to start, and she moves right into some very good jumps. First, it’s a triple bipple-bender and then a double nutcracker. And finally it’s a triple vanilla cupcake followed by a double chocolate chipper.

“Beautiful job by Dancer,” said Dick Elf. “Both deer have done well. The judges will have a tough job.”

And so, Prancer is up. She is skating to the very good songs of Rogers and Hammerstein.

She starts out with some fantastic spins and some graceful dance moves. The crowd is excited and clapping along.

And now the jumps. Prancer starts with a triple buzz-saw and a double hoop shoot! Perfectly done!

“Prancer is off to a fine start,” said Rudolph. “She will be tough to beat.”

And now the finale. Prancer will try four triple jumps in a row. This will be very, very tough. Can she do it?

“She might fall here,” said Dick Elf. “She won’t get hurt, but it might cost her the gold mdeal.”

And she’s ready, Prancer comes sweeping toward the center of the rink, and she lines up the jumps and there she goes! One, two, three and four! Yes, it’s four perfect triple banana splits in a row. Superb.

“Fantastic job,” said Rudolph.

And so the judges meet and tally their scores. And yes, Prancer is the winner! And Dasher takes a close second. Prancer earns the fifth gold medal of the games. She joins Dancer in the High Jump, Donder in the Long Jump, Comet in the Sprint Race and Vixen for the Around-the-World Marathon.

Check back tomorrow as the game continue with our sixth event, Speed Skating. Following will be the Obstacle Course and Snowboarding events.
