To solve the super secret case of the sabotaged sewing machine, Super Secret Jack Spinner the Specialized Sleuth and his Mighty Sidekick Zachery the Kosmic Kid, had searched for clues in the reindeer barn, followed suspicious-looking footsteps in the snow and, finally, ended up in Mrs Claus’ kitchen. She was serving them their second cup of cocoa while they munched on homemade spicy gingerbread cookies.
Before Mrs Claus could tell Super Secret Jack Spinner and Zachery the Kosmic Kid what she was doing that morning right before her sewing machine broke- there was an unfortunate accident. Super Secret, excited to be interviewing the victim of the crime, sprung to his feet, tripped over the edge of the cosy pink throw gown he’d borrowed from Mrs Claus, and fell head first directly into the table.
BAM! CRASH!
The force of the fall caused his cocoa to spill on the floor and sent the plate of gingerbread cookies flying through the air!
“ANOTHER bruiser! That’s gonna leave a mark” he muttered. It was too late for the cocoa, but an incredibly dexterous Mrs Claus snatched the plate in mid flight and danced through the kitchen, catching each and every cookie. When she was finished, she returned the plate of neatly stacked cookies to the table and mopped up the spilled cocoa in a single motion. Kosmic watched Mrs Claus, in awe of her extreme efficiency. Super Secret surveyed the chaos he’d created, cried out, “Another trap!” and threw himself under the table to look for clues.
“This morning, before the sewing machine stopped working, I was doing the usual- sprucing up the house! I tidy up, I dust and the very last thing I do is run the hoover over the place. I had just put the hoover away before I sat down to begin my sewing.” Kosmic Kid leaned towards Mrs Claus and whispered, “I think it’s time to take a look.”
Before Super Secret emerged from underneath the table, still wrapped in the fluffy pink throw, Mrs Claus and Kosmic Kid darted upstairs. Super Secret heard their footsteps and eagerly followed.
A horrified Super Secret burst into Mrs Claus’ workroom to find Mrs Claus and Kosmic in the middle of the crime scene. Kosmic was actually touching the sewing machine! He was crouched down behind it, looking for something. “Aha! Mystery solved! Something has knocked the plug out of the wall socket!” stated Kosmic. He’d found the plug on the floor under the sewing table and inserted it into the wall socket with a click!
“Of course! The hoover! I guess I had a hoover blooper.” chuckled Mrs Claus with a delighted smile. Super Secret blurted, “No one move! It could be another trap! Let me test it out…” Super grabbed a scrap of fabric from the bundle on the table and pushed his foot down on the sewing machine pedal. The machine made a noise, but nothing else happened. “Ha! I knew it! Sabotaged! We’ll have to-” Kosmic handed Super a reel of red thread, whispering, “It needs one of these before it’ll work properly.”
“I knew it! I Knew it! I KNEW it!” boasted Super Secret. “It was the hoover all along; just as I thought!
Ya see Kosmic Kid, you just need to follow the clues from the beginning; they’ll ALWAYS lead to solving the case!” The Kosmic Kid sighed, “Of course Super Secret. I’m certainly learning a lot of what NOT to do.”
“Stick with me Kid. You’re learning but you have a ways to go yet.” replied Super Secret as he patted Kosmic Kid on his head.
