Elves race to make toys as Gizmo builds a rocket

Only 20 days remained until Christmas Eve, and the North Pole was buzzing louder than a peppermint beehive. With Santa still in orbit and the Appendapulator now busy building a rescue rocket, every elf in the workshop was working twice as hard — maybe three times, if you counted the ones sprinting between toy tables.

Toby Elf, Santa’s Chief Toymaking Elf, hurried up to Mrs. Claus with a clipboard under one arm and a measuring tape wrapped around his wrist.

“We’ve got every elf we can find making toys, Mrs. Claus,” Toby reported proudly. “They’re all working as fast as they can!”

Mrs. Claus nodded, watching a nearby elf push a towering cart stacked with cookies, cocoa, and candy canes.

“That’s quite a load of treats,” she said. “Are a lot of kids asking for candy this year?”

Toby squinted at his list. “Actually… not many. Why do you ask?”

Mrs. Claus tilted her head. “Then where is that cart going?”

Toby blinked.
“Oh! Those treats are for us, Mrs. C! The elves love snacks when they’re working this hard.”

As if on cue, he let out an enormous yawn.

Mrs. Claus slowly scanned the room.
She saw elves hammering, stitching, wrapping — all working wonderfully… until they suddenly stopped to yawn, stretch, or rub their eyes. One elf even fell gently asleep inside a box labeled “FRAGILE.”

“Hmm,” she murmured. “Sugar does give energy… but it fades very quickly.”

Mrs. Claus tapped her chin thoughtfully.
“We need something that keeps their spirits high and keeps them going.”

Hope flickered — but only for a moment.

Because standing at the edge of the workshop, half-hidden behind a pile of lumber, was Gizmo Elf. He clutched a wrench with both hands and wore a very-worried, very-un-Gizmo-like frown.

Mrs. Claus approached him quietly.

“Gizmo? What is it?”

Gizmo sighed.
“Even with every elf making toys by hand… we’re still facing some problems.”

Mrs. Claus’ eyes widened.
“New problems?”

Gizmo nodded gravely.

“What could those be?” Mrs. Claus wondered.

And what will she do next?
