The Workshop Meeting Room was buzzing as every elf squeezed in shoulder-to-shoulder. Mrs. Claus stepped forward, smiling warmly over the crowded tables.
“My, we’ve had a busy week!” she said.
“Busy?” Bernard Elf huffed. “Santa and Waldo are in space! I’d call that more than busy!”
Mrs. Claus nodded gently. “True. But Gizmo and his team are already building the rescue rocket.”
Gizmo pushed up his goggles. “We’ve reprogrammed the Appendapulator. It’s no longer making toys — it’s making rocket parts as fast as it can.”
Smitty Elf waved a massive stack of lists in the air.
“We’ve got more boys and girls on the Nice List than ever! If the Appendapulator isn’t making toys, how will they get presents?”
“That’s why Toby Elf has every available elf making toys the old-fashioned way,” said Mrs. Claus. “By hand, just like in the old days. He should be here with a progress report any moment.”
Twinkle Elf raised her hand shyly.
“But even if we finish the rocket… how will we find Santa? Space is really, really big.”
Holly Elf stepped forward proudly.
“We’ve launched the Santa Spotter program. Boys and girls everywhere are watching the skies right now. Whenever someone thinks they see Santa’s shuttle, they message The North Pole Times. We’re tracking every sighting.”

Mrs. Claus folded her hands.
“So you see — things are going as well as we can hope for.”
Just then, the doors swung open.
Toby Elf trudged inside, frowning so hard his hat drooped.
“I don’t get it,” he muttered. “The elves are working nonstop. They’re doing their very best. But…”
He flipped through his notebook, numbers circling everywhere.
“We’re still not making enough toys. Not even close. At this rate… we may not have presents for everyone on the Nice List.”
Gasps filled the room.
The problem wasn’t just Santa in space anymore.
Now Christmas itself was falling behind.
Will there be enough presents this year?
