Bernard Elf hurried into Santa’s office, waving a printed page like it might fly away. “Mrs. C! You’ve got an email from Santa! And—well—you really should check your inbox more often!”
Mrs. Claus blinked in surprise. It had been a difficult stretch at the North Pole: Santa and Waldo still in orbit, the workshop silent from the elves’ vegetable-fueled protest, and Yeti accidentally turning toys into exploded toy confetti. So a message from Santa felt like a warm patch of sunlight in a week of storms.
She took the page and read quickly. As her eyes moved across the words, her face softened—and then brightened.
“What does it say?” Jiller Elf asked, practically bouncing.

Mrs. Claus placed a hand over her heart. “That dear man… he’s given me a solution.” She cleared her throat and began to read aloud from Santa’s message:
‘You’re right, dear—the elves do eat too many sweets. I’ve tried getting them to cut back for ages with no luck! But you can’t keep them away from candy forever. They’re elves!’
Bernard nodded. “He has definitely mentioned that once or twice.”
“Shush!” whispered Jiller. “I want to hear the rest!”
Mrs. Claus continued reading:
‘Instead of banning sweets, let them enjoy candy and treats at the end of their meals. A little balance goes a long way.’
She lowered the page and looked at the elves gathered around her. “Well? What do you think?”
Toby Elf gave a hopeful grin. “I’ll take this straight to the elves outside. I bet they’ll go for it. They’re not happy out there… they’d much rather be inside making toys.”
Will this new plan bring the elves back to the workshop? Will the toys get finished in time for Christmas?
